UNSW Justice Inclusion Access (JEINA)
Building an equitable future for women from forced migration backgrounds through higher education and professional development.
Welcome
The UNSW Justice Inclusion Access (JEINA) initiative is committed to empowering migrant women within UNSW and our community, with a particular focus on forcibly displaced women. Through research, community-led programs, strategic partnerships, and tailored pathways in education and career development, JEINA promotes meaningful inclusion and personal and professional growth.
In a world shaped by persistent inequities, JEINA reflects our unwavering commitment to uplifting women, expanding possibilities, fostering lifelong learning, and nurturing a collaborative, cohesive, and peaceful future.
We define forcibly displaced individuals as those compelled to leave their homeland due to circumstances beyond their control, such as conflict, persecution, political instability, human rights violations, general violence, economic collapse or environmental disasters that threaten their safety and wellbeing.
Despite diverse experiences, forcibly displaced individuals (including refugees, asylum seekers, exiles, and others) often share common threads of trauma and upheaval. Women face added challenges in host countries.
Here, you can explore our work, connect with our community, and discover how we translate inclusive values into tangible impact.
We invite students, individuals, organisations and allies who share our vision to join our community as collaborators, contributors or sponsors to create sustainable change.
Overview
JEINA is building an equitable future for women from forced migration backgrounds through higher education and professional development.
Forced displacement currently affects over 122 million people worldwide. Among them, more than 60 million women and girls face heightened risks of gender-based violence, restricted access to healthcare, economic vulnerability, social isolation, and enduring legal barriers, even after resettling in host countries. These compounded challenges significantly hinder their social integration, professional advancement, and long-term wellbeing.
