Be a Better Human

Building a culture where every member of our community feels respected

Be a better human

Since 2021, Arc and UNSW have partnered in an initiative called 'Be A Better Human' in order to help strengthen a respectful and inclusive culture. Together we want to encourage everyone to do more when it comes to understanding, preventing and responding to disrespectful behaviours.

'Be a Better Human' will provide practical tools, guidance, and support to help students and staff feel more confident in supporting one another, confident in responding to disrespectful behaviors, because at UNSW, respect and inclusion are not optional values, they are fundamental to who we are and the kind of university we aspire to be.

Join in the conversation and let's figure out how we can be better humans.

About

The campaign is called 'Be a Better Human' because we don’t just want it to be about what we shouldn’t do; we want it to be about self-improvement for everyone. And when we say ‘everyone’, we really do mean everyone.

Kindness Awards

NEW: The 'Be a Better Human' Kindness Awards celebrate members of the UNSW community who help create a more respectful, inclusive and connected campus through everyday actions.

What is an active bystander?

An active bystander is someone who not only witnesses a situation, but safely takes action to keep a situation from escalating or to disrupt a problematic situation.

Speak out

In this ongoing video series we meet and talk to people who courageously share their own experiences, the impact it’s had, what they’ve learnt and how ‘active bystanders’ could have helped

‘Say what…?’

When 'jokes' or comments are made that we, or others, may find offensive, calling it out can be daunting and uncomfortable.
