Verification of UNSW Documents for DFAT
How to get documents stamped and signed by authorised UNSW staff for the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT)
If The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) have advised you to have your original testamur or transcripts signed by UNSW, please follow the steps below.
Please make sure you have read the information issued by the Australian Government on the DFAT and Smartraveller websites.

Follow the steps below if you can make it in person to The Nucleus: Student Hub (Kensington campus).
Get your documents verified in person at The Nucleus: Student Hub
Bring your original testamur (degree certificate), academic transcripts and/or any other letters required by DFAT. Your documents will then be stamped and signed by an authorised officer so that you can submit them to DFAT.
Please note: Only original documents will be signed by The Nucleus: Student Hub. Copies will not be accepted.

Monday – Friday (excluding public holidays and shutdown period):
- 10am – 12pm
- 2pm – 5pm
Sending someone else to verify your documents on your behalf?
You must provide any third party with a signed letter of authorisation from you requesting the documents to be signed and stamped by an authorised officer.
Follow the steps below if you cannot make it in person to The Nucleus: Student Hub (Kensington campus).
Send your documents to The Nucleus: Student Hub with a request letter
Please send your official testamur (degree certificate) and/or academic transcripts to The Nucleus: Student Hub securely. Do not fold or bend the documents.
Please note: Only original documents will be signed by The Nucleus: Student Hub. Copies will not be accepted.
If you are sending documents from overseas, we recommend you to use a courier to ensure the documents don't get lost in transit.
In your request letter, please make sure to:
- State that you require an authentication for DFAT
- Provide current contact details including your:
- Phone number
- Mailing address.
- Tell us what you need us to do after your documents have been signed by UNSW.
- Need to send your documents to DFAT?
Please include the contact details of the DFAT Officer. We will send your documents by Australia Post to the NSW State DFAT office in Sydney free of charge. If you need the documents sent overseas, we will send them to your local Australian mission via Australia Post. Your documents will be sent with a cover letter that will include your contact details. - Need to have your documents returned to you?
Please advise us and provide your complete mailing address. Your documents will be mailed to you free of charge by Australia Post.
