Parent’s rooms & facilities
Welcoming spaces for feeding, care and comfort on campus
Supporting student parents at UNSW
We know that balancing study and parenting can be challenging. That’s why UNSW offers a number of private parents’ rooms and a wide range of facilities on both Sydney and Canberra campuses for you to use.
These spaces are designed for breastfeeding, chest feeding, expressing milk, bottle feeding, and short-term child supervision. UNSW is also a Best Practice accredited Breastfeeding Friendly Workplace and supports the needs of LGBTIQ+ families.
Under Australian Federal Law, breastfeeding is a right, not a privilege. You are welcome to breastfeed anywhere on campus or use a parents’ room if you prefer a private space.
Balancing study and parenting
UNSW recognises that parenting responsibilities may require flexibility throughout the day. You can negotiate lactation breaks with your lecturers or tutors as needed.
Flexible study options, including part-time enrolment, online access, or timetable adjustments may also be available to support parenting commitments.
