This morning, many of you will be processing the heart-wrenching images of police, paramedics and community members attending to the victims of last night's horrific terrorist attack in Bondi. Your sorrow and anguish are shared by all of us at UNSW.

Our heartfelt condolences particularly go out to the Jewish community. We are united in our shock and condemnation of the violent attack on the first day of Hanukkah. The fact that this horrific act of terror has happened in Australia, so close to UNSW, is deeply disturbing to us all.

We are a university embedded within the Eastern Suburbs community. We know that many students and staff, along with their loved ones, have been directly affected. You are not alone; our thoughts, and the thoughts of everyone at UNSW, are with those impacted.

Support is available

Please, take the time that you need to ensure your well-being. Please reach out – we have made extensive support services available and we urge you to access these in the days and weeks ahead. We are also extending our support services to alumni who were present or directly affected.

The support includes mental health services for students through UNSW Psychology & Wellness. Here are the different ways you can find support:

NSW Government Support for Victims of Crime

All who have been hurt or affected by this incident are in our thoughts at this difficult time. Please look after yourselves, your families and your fellow students. It is by looking after each other, deep commitment and collective action that we can together confront antisemitism, violence and prejudice. Now more than ever, we must unite as a community in support of a cohesive, peaceful and just society.
