SOVS Paper of the week: Many parents are concerned that too much homework or playing on digital devices (near-work) may contribute to short-sightedness (myopia). Researchers from the BHVI Ltd / UNSW Optometry & Vision Science have developed an eye-tracker that estimates gaze in 3D ecological environments. The novel device can measure near-work objectively and allows vision researchers to gain in-depth understanding into what the eyes are exposed to when wearers engage in near-work. This device may have the potential to help reveal the root causes of myopia.
