Many people who require spectacles may also be able to wear contact lenses. There are many advantages to wearing contact lenses such as when playing sports, if you don’t like wearing glasses or if you just want to change your look.
Providing a complete line of contact lens designs, materials and lens care products, the Contact Lens Clinic is experienced in fitting complex lens forms to challenging patient eye conditions with access to advanced equipment.
In order to minimise any potential problems induced by contact lens wear, patients must attend scheduled follow-up appointments after the contact lenses have been prescribed and dispensed.

Examinations are available to UNSW staff, students and the general public at no cost to patients during term time. You do NOT need a Medicare Card.

A general eye examination may be required to be conducted in our Primary Care Clinic in addition to a contact lens evaluation.
You do not require a formal referral to attend our clinic. However, if you have been given a written referral to the UNSW Optometry Clinic by your local optometrist, medical practitioner or other health care professional, please forward a copy of the referral to the reception at least 48 hrs before your scheduled appointment either by fax (02) 9055 1900 or email optomclinic@unsw.edu.au

The time taken for your comprehensive eye examination may vary depending on the type difficulties you are having with your eyes. As a general guideline we allow approximately 1.5 hours, which includes the initial testing as well as discussions about treatment options and recommendations. Review appointments are usually shorter.

Your current spectacles (and/or spectacle prescriptions), contact lenses, contact lens case and contact lens care products. It’s possible you may not be able to wear your contact lenses afterwards.
A list of any known allergies, regular medications, eye drops, past contact lenses and past contact lens care products.

In order to comprehensively evaluate your eye health, your eye examination may include the instillation of eye drops. It’s unlikely they will cause blurry vision. However, you may not be able to wear your contact lenses afterwards.
