Student life at UNSW is full of opportunities.
Student life at UNSW is full of opportunities – there’s so much more to do than study. Make connections with your peers, building friendships and laying the groundwork for a successful career. Learn about student societies, accommodation options and how you can get involved in special projects.
Within a one-minute stroll from the School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering is a collection of colleges and residential apartments for students. The colleges are always buzzing, promoting social and sporting activities and providing meals at set times. On the other end of the scale, you can stay in a residential apartment, which is simply an apartment run by the university, with less rigorous involvement required. Check out the UNSW Accommodation website for more information about UNSW’s colleges and apartments.
There are a range of student societies covering different areas of study and interest. Read through their descriptions to decide which ones are best for you to join.
We have been supporting the students of the Mechanical Engineering community for more than 50 years. One of the largest societies on campus, we serve students studying Mechanical, Aerospace, Mechatronic and Manufacturing Engineering. Being part of MechSoc means you have access to a range of social, industry and academic events to support you through your time at university. Industry nights, BBQs, pub crawls, revision days and camps are just a small part of what we do.
CREATE provides opportunities to learn practical skills in engineering, innovation and design as well as collaborate on shared ideas and projects. By maintaining an active community of like-minded ‘makers’ and providing resources, knowledge and technology, we inspire you to turn ideas into designs, prototypes and products. We are firm believers in collective knowledge, learning and cooperation as an effective way to expand what is possible for any individual to accomplish. We also sell affordable electrical and robotic components at UNSW during semester, supplying the parts you need for projects big or small.

Bluesat is a student-led space projects society with a focus on real-world value. We design and manufacture nanosatellites, build and operate satellite groundstations, create user interfaces for analogue astronaut missions, participate in space entrepreneurship competitions, launch high altitude balloons and more. We also run events to educate as well as to connect students to the space industry. We’re constantly looking to grow our teams, develop new projects and events, and collaborate with others.
