Research goal

Students on the Pacific Water Security project work with Pacific Islands governments to address real-world WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene) challenges and design sustainable solutions that empower disadvantaged communities and improve lives.

To date, the PWS team have worked on the following design challenges:

  • Bio-inspired water skimmer to fight plastic pollution in the Pacific

  • Sustainable groundwater extraction systems for remote island communities

  • Portable water quality test kits for schools on outlying islands

  • Affordable water filtration systems for rural healthcare facilities

Other design challenges are likely to emerge in consultation with Pacific Island communities.

We are looking for students who are:
