Carla had a goal - a successful career in tourism. She was attracted to marketing, as it has a powerful ability to influence people's behaviour. A degree in marketing would help her achieve her dream.
She knew UNSW had an excellent reputation. When she attended Open Day, she noticed a vibrant, buzzing energy and entrepreneurial spirit in the student community. Carla realised this was the right university for her.
The Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Marketing gave her a fundamental grounding in business. Even though her goal was to work in marketing, she was grateful to have an understanding of statistics, economics, human resources… all of which have been useful throughout her career.
In addition to her coursework, Carla took advantage of UNSW's global opportunities. She studied abroad for a term at Copenhagen Business School (just one of UNSW Business School's international partners).
Carla also successfully applied for an internship at Tourism Australia. She put her education to the test and gained real-world experience. Not only did the placement confirm her interest in tourism marketing, but it also helped her land a job with a luxury cruise company after graduation.
Having practical career experience put Carla at the front of the pack when applying for jobs. She was able to use real and relevant examples during the selection process. Carla has continued to build on her success - she now leads a marketing team for one of Australia's most successful tour and cruise companies.
