What is marketing?

Marketing is a process of creating, communicating, delivering, and exchanging offerings that have value for customers, clients, partners, and society at large. The Marketing major at UNSW provides a comprehensive understanding of marketing concepts and strategies.

Entry requirements for studying marketing

In order to study marketing at UNSW, you’ll need to meet certain entry requirements, which vary based on whether you’re an undergraduate or postgraduate student, and if you’re applying as a domestic or international student.

  • Undergraduate

    Entry to an undergraduate degree at UNSW is based on your Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) or an equivalent rank. You can find the selection ranks and scores from the previous year under ‘Entry requirements’ on each degree page. Some courses will also have assumed knowledge. For example, Advanced Mathematics falls under assumed knowledge for the Bachelor of Commerce.

  • Postgraduate

    Admission to a postgraduate degree at UNSW requires you to hold a recognised undergraduate degree (or equivalent qualification). You will also need to demonstrate a minimum credit average, as determined by the UNSW Business School. Details specific to your chosen degree can be found under ‘Entry requirements’.

  • International students

    Entry to an undergraduate degree is based on your International ATAR equivalent or equivalent ranking. Postgraduate students must hold a recognised undergraduate degree (or equivalent qualification) with a credit average, as determined by the UNSW Business School.

    International students from a non-English speaking background may be asked to provide proof of their English proficiency before being given an offer to study at UNSW. Details can be found on each degree page under ‘Entry requirements’.

  • Marketing helps businesses promote their products and services. Marketing uses data, analytics and communication tools to help businesses stand out from competition, understand customer behaviour, enhance customer experience and meet customer needs. 

  • Australia’s economy is rapidly growing, and as businesses emerge and expand, there are increasingly diverse opportunities for skilled marketing graduates.
