After a short introduction to the subject I will discuss the following points:

• The lattice gauge model as a Hamiltonian system with symmetries
• Singular Marsden Weinstein reduction of this system
• Canonical quantization (including remarks on the observable algebra and its representations)
• How to include nongeneric gauge orbit strata on quantum level?
• Open problems
