We discuss a class of groupoids equipped with (abstract) root systems with very favourable properties. The motivating examples are Coxeter groups with their root systems, but they are also naturally attached, for example, to Coxeter groupoids, real simplicial hyperplane arrangements, free products of cyclic groups, and some continuous groups.
