Abstract:

In the context of algebra, deformation quantisation is a technique where one considers a family of objects indexed by a parameter, which specialises to some known, classical object of study. Through this technique we can more closely probe the properties of otherwise rigid objects, and also adapt techniques of symplectic and Poisson geometry to the algebraic setting. In this talk I'll give an introduction to some examples of deformation quantisation, and briefly discuss how it relates to my work in the field of finite W-algebras.
