Mixed finite element methods for partial differential equations

Abstract:

In this talk we will briefly introduce the mixed finite element method and show its applications. We start with a simple mixed formulation for the Poisson problem and then consider different mixed finite element approaches for the elasticity equation. We will discuss the application of a bi-orthogonal system to reduce the computational cost in the mixed finite element approaches.
