Abstract

Nonconforming finite element methods have been proven efficient in solving unstable fluid and solid mechanics, and thus they have drawn much attention from mathematicians and engineers. In this talk I will review several nonconforming finite element methods. I will then explain the structure of nonconforming finite elements compared to that of standard conforming elements. Then I will suggest a framework to design new finite elements.
