Abstract

For once, I shall leave our wholesome family values behind and work only with the values associated with one single character, namely, the principle one.  Borrowing some words from the melancholy prince, I will begin this enterprise by attempting a pithy and generally assessable survey of the Riemann zeta-function and the study of its moments.  This review will be followed by a report of my recent joint work with P. Gao on the negative discrete moments of this function of fundamental importance.  Technical details will be kept at a minimum.
