Abstract

What do the following have in common: enumerating graphs on surfaces, counting factorisations of permutations, integrating over spaces of matrices, quantum invariants of knots, and topological string theory? One answer is topological recursion, which was "discovered" in mathematical physics and has generated immense interest across various research communities. In this talk, we will give a broad overview of topological recursion, along with a recent result and an elementary conjecture inspired by it.
