Abstract

The Mathematics 1A and 1B courses, and their higher counterparts, are the gateway to second-year maths, stats and many other disciplines in the Faculties of Science and Engineering. The workings of these courses have changed quite significantly in recent years, and they will undoubtably continue to change in response to new challenges and opportunities. To help facilitate discussion on the continued evolution of these and the other first-year courses, this seminar will give an overview of how our first-year maths and stats courses function and the rationale behind the choices that led to the current structure. Some ideas for the future will also be outlined.
