Abstract
Multiple scattering of waves by structures comprising many individual bodies is central to controlling wave propagation in disordered or periodic media, with applications ranging from water waves to acoustics and optics. Understanding these interactions is essential for designing structures that achieve effects such as attenuation, reflection and energy trapping. This talk presents a novel approach for representing radiating waves using wavefunction series expansions, which allow the computations to be accelerated with the translation-addition theorem. We then use this approach to investigate rainbow trapping and reflection phenomena in acoustic and optical metamaterials.
