Abstract:

The School of Mathematics and Statistics, UNSW has this semester made a bold venture into the online teaching space for our first year courses, by initiating Online Tutorials in MATH1141 Mathematics 1A. Now Classroom Tutorials and Online Tutorials alternate, and the students are asked to do a lot more than in previous years.

What are the motivations for this move? How did we set up these Online Tutorials?

What initial data do we have about student responses and uptake so far? What implications for first year teaching arise? Where are we going to go from here?

In this seminar, Norman Wildberger, Daniel Mansfield and Jonathan Kress will overview what's been happening so far, and try to answer some of these questions, and other questions you might have.

Please join us after the seminar for wine and cheese and refreshments in the staff common room, Red Centre Building, RC-3082.
