Abstract:

The goal of this information session is to give some insight into the application process for PhD positions in Australia and overseas.

Applying for PhD programs is a complex process, from finding the information you need (e.g., scholarships) to taking various tests, writing applications and going through interviews. Besides, the process differs from country to country.

A/Prof Ian Doust (Director of Postgraduate Research Studies in the School of Mathematics and Statistics, UNSW) will discuss the opportunities of doing a PhD in Australia, Mr Marley Young (PhD student at the University of Cambridge) will talk about what it takes to apply for, and obtain, a PhD position in the UK, while Mr Ray Li (UNSW), future Master's student at the University of Cambridge and PhD student at the University of Chicago, will discuss applying in the USA.

This information session is especially dedicated to interested students in years 3+, but everyone is welcome to attend.
