Homelessness amongst Australian veterans

The Australian Government Department of Veterans' Affairs commissioned the Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute (AHURI) to examine the extent and nature of homelessness amongst Australian veterans.

The research was conducted by a consortium of researchers and community representatives, led by the Social Policy Research Centre. 

The research project includes the five following reports:

1. Homelessness amongst Australian veterans: summary of project findings
   This summary report synthesises key findings and recommendations from the Homelessness amongst Australian veterans’ research project.


2. Homelessness amongst Australian veterans: homelessness and its correlates in Australian Defence Force veterans
   This report provides comprehensive estimates of the prevalence and correlates of homelessness in Australian contemporary veterans.


3. Homelessness amongst Australian contemporary veterans: pathways from military and transition risk factors
   This report provides detailed analysis of existing data collected as part of the DVA and Defence funded Transition and Wellbeing Research Programme (TWRP) and the Military Health Outcomes Programme (MilHOP).


4. Homelessness amongst Australian contemporary veterans: using the Specialist Homelessness Services Collection to examine veteran homelessness
   This report presents analysis of two linked datasets to report on the use of Specialist Homelessness Services (SHS) by ex-serving Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel.


5. Homelessness amongst Australian veterans: findings from the qualitative interviews
   This report examines experiences of veteran homelessness through in-depth qualitative interviews with Australian Defence Force (ADF) veterans and representatives from stakeholder organisations established to support homeless veterans.
