Enterprise Skills (COMM5008)

Enterprise Skills (COMM5008) offers the opportunity for postgraduate UNSW Business School students to enhance their professional skills and capabilities.  

Combining industry-led workshops with 100 hours of work experience with an industry partner from within the start-up community, this is a for-credit course (6UoC). 

Students must successfully complete Australian Business Essentials to be eligible for this course.  

Career Accelerator partners with start-ups across Sydney for the placement component of this course. Students will work on varied projects that combine their unique strengths, insights and perspectives.  

Enterprise Skills takes place in terms 1, 2 and 3.

If you are currently completing Australian Business Essentials and are interested in enrolling in COMM5008, please contact Career Accelerator.  

Students can enrol in COMM5008 Enterprise Skills as an elective course in the following degrees: 

  • Master of Commerce  
  • Master of Commerce (Extension) 
  • Master of Professional Accounting (Extension) 

Course substitutions may be granted on a case-by-case basis for students enrolled in the following degrees: 

  • Master of Finance 
  • Master of Financial Analysis 
  • Master of International Business 

Ensure you have space in your degree for this course. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that this course will count within your program requirements. It’s recommended you refer to your program handbook and the progression plans to understand your current progression and program.

Enrolment to COMM5008 Enterprise Skills is restricted, students cannot enrol themselves. The UNSW Business School will enrol students who meet the eligibility criteria which includes completion of Australian Business Essentials

Enterprise Skills (COMM5008) is ungraded; students receive a SY (satisfactory) when they have completed all course requirements and assessable tasks to the satisfactory level required indicated in task descriptions. 

In order to pass this course, you must: 

  • Achieve a composite mark of at least 50 AND make a satisfactory attempt at all assessment tasks (see below) 
  • Attend at least 90% of the in-class workshops 
  • Have 90% attendance within the Placement 
  • Internship Agreement & Supervisor report (includes successful completion of hours) 10% 
  • Four reflective entries 40% 
  • Executive Summary, Workshop participation and mid-session meetings 20% 
  • Professional Report 30%
