What is your degree and engineering stream and why did you choose it?

I'm commencing a Bachelor of Engineering (Flexible First Year) program, as I've always loved maths, science, problem solving and building with my hands, so engineering seemed like the obvious choice for me when choosing my degree. However, when it came to picking a specialisation, I would get really lost because there were multiple disciplines that interested me like mechanical, mining and civil. For this reason, I chose to do a Flexible First Year so I can try out the different specialisations and be more confident in my final choice.

Why did you choose to study at UNSW Sydney?

Other than being home to the best Engineering faculty in Australia, UNSW Sydney also appealed to me because of its vibrant culture and the wide range of societies. During year 12, I also actively participated in the UNSW Young Women in Engineering Club, including their GIE FEAS program (now the UNSW Young Women in Engineering Pathway Program) and school holiday workshops. They gave me a wonderful taste of life at UNSW Sydney through the current students, future students and staff that I met as well as the activities I participated in.

What are you most looking forward to about starting at UNSW Sydney?

I am looking forward to meeting new people all over university and joining societies like WIESoc (Women in Engineering Society). I am also extremely excited to get to use the Makerspaces in UNSW, become familiar with all the tools and be able to build things with my own hands!
