Welcome to UNSW Engineering
Challenge yourself at a globally-recognised engineering faculty, where different perspectives spark more human solutions. You’ll be hands-on, collaborating and problem-solving from day one, as you take part in industry-changing innovation.
UNSW Engineering is at the forefront of education and research, with more engineering degree specialisations than anywhere else in Australia. We create unique experiences that develop our students into adaptable and work-ready engineers of the future. Our faculty’s values inform our approach to teaching, learning, research and partnerships, bringing together more than 70 years’ experience from our passionate academics and researchers.
UNSW Engineering was founded in 1949. The faculty has rapidly grown, expanding from four founding schools to eight, to include new ground-breaking fields such as Photovoltaic and Renewable Energy Engineering.
For more than 70 years, the faculty has been the major hub for engineering studies and research in Australia. We offer the most comprehensive range of engineering degrees in the country and our internationally renowned research programs have seen us become world leaders in quantum computing research.
Our priority has always been to train industry-ready engineers and undertake crucial research to solve today’s pressing issues and challenges. To achieve this, we remain committed to our international focus and will continue to leverage the insights we gain from our global interactions.
When you choose to join UNSW Engineering, you become part of the #1 engineering faculty in Australia.
We foster the highest number of female students of any engineering faculty, while our graduates receive the highest starting salaries of all Go8 universities.
The UNSW 2025 Strategic Plan sets out the priorities that will guide UNSW through the next decade to be Australia’s Global University. We aim to make a real difference to communities by leading discovery, problem-solving innovation, education, thought leadership and a commitment to advancing a just society.
In addition to ensuring our faculty’s programs produce job-ready graduates, the Dean’s Advisory Council is committed to promoting engineering to Government and the community. The council helps to demonstrate what engineers can do to shape Australia’s future.
The Executive Management Committee is a vibrant and diverse advisory body to the Dean of Engineering. The committee ensures that appropriate structures and mechanisms are in place for the governance of the school. Learn more about our people.
We want our teachers to be able to innovate. Education Innovation allows teachers to share insights and meet with colleagues in other disciplines. This initiative is part of our faculty’s development programs for teachers.
We’re committed to providing a supportive, equitable and inclusive environment where all students and staff can thrive. Our Engineering Equity Diversity and Inclusion committee works alongside students and staff to ensure the next generation of engineers succeed, regardless of their background.
