About the Indigenous Australian Engineering School

The Indigenous Australian Engineering School (IAES) is a week-long residential program for Indigenous high school students in Years 10–12, delivered in partnership with Engineering Aid Australia. The program provides hands-on engineering experiences and valuable insights into the field of engineering.

As a residential program, IAES offers students the opportunity to experience university life, build connections with peers, connect with culture, network with other young Indigenous professionals, and explore engineering as a potential study and career pathway. The program hosts 25 students for an unforgettable week of learning, culture and next experiences. The program is free for students, with all travel, meals, and accommodation provided.

Who Can Apply

  • Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students across Australia (excluding Western Australia)
  • Students who will be in Years 10–12 in 2027
  • Curious about solving problems and building things
  • Students Interested in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics)

What’s included with the UNSW Sydney IAES Program?

  • A 6-night residential experience (Sunday 10 January to Saturday 16 January 2027)
  • The program is free for students, with all travel, meals, and accommodation provided
  • Hands-on engineering workshops
  • Site visits to engineering companies and worksites
  • Mentoring from Indigenous professionals and cultural activities with local mob
  • Opportunities to meet engineers and explore university pathways
  • Build friendships and take part in social activities
